Training Course Overview

The purpose of this course is to provide HSRs an opportunity to revisit information and skills attained under the 5 day initial course. This includes understanding the WHS legislation, how the legislation applies to the role of the HSR and additional knowledge and skills regarding powers and functions under the WHS legislation.

Who should attend the training program

Persons eligible for the Safework NSW approved one day refresher course are all elected HSRs/DHSRs under the WHS Act 2011 who have completed the initial 5 day course (or the Bridging course as the transitional provision of the WHS Regulation), or managers who would like to understand the role of their HSRs and gain an introduction to work health and safety.

Topics Covered

Upon completion of this course, you will have a greater knowledge of:

  • Legislation relating to HSRs.
  • Consultation processes
  • Conflict resolution
  • Risk Management
  • Provisional Improvement Notices (PINs) and the right to cease or direct the cessation of, unsafe work.

The course is intended to assist HSRs to refresh the information and skills attained in the initial five day HSR training course and to carry out their role and functions under the WHS legislation in their workplace. This course is non-competency based and has no formal assessment.

What to bring on the day

  • Evidence of your identity (eg. Driver’s License or passport)
  • A filled in ID Form, to be handed to the Trainer
  • HSRs must bring their Original certificate from the initial training
